Why You're Stronger With a REAL Social Circle
The benefits of a having a tribe are undeniable. Women who have strong social circles are living longer, happier, healthier lives in comparison to those who lack connections and are mentally and physically exhausting themselves trying to quench external desires in isolation.
Today, we live in an uber-connected era, where anyone is able to make thousands of friends and participate in their lives with the swipe of a finger. Why then, in such a connected time in history, do so many women feel disconnected, confined, misunderstood, defeated, or think that success is a solo project?
Fellow girl boss Lori Harder explores these ideas in her new book, A Tribe Called Bliss.
WE TALKED TO LORI ABOUT ONE TAKEAWAY FROM HER NEW BOOK THAT WOULD RESONATE WITH OUR READERS:
LORI: There are so many benefits to having a strong social circle that I could share, but let me share one that I know will get your attention:
Having connected relationships helps you move past your fears and take more risks, therefore reaching your goals faster.
In my book, A Tribe Called Bliss I call these strong social circles, tribes. When you feel you have a supportive tribe, you are more willing to take risks because you don’t fear rejection as much. You know that no matter if you get that job, part or book deal, you still have people that love and accept you no matter what. Essentially, you have a soft place to land in this free fall we call life. You also have a much faster comeback rate from the low points or failures because they remind you of your why, your true value and that you need to get your butt back out there and try again.
Fear can often over take most people who do not feel like they have close friends because fear feeds on isolation. The more we keep it hidden or cover up our stories, the more it grows. Fear doesn’t just grow alone though, it finds friends. Cue the shame, guilt and blame. When we have close friends we feel safe to be vulnerable and share our stories. Sharing allows us to hear the words "me too" or "I am here for you" and the fear immediately loosens its grip. As fear loosens, your power starts to return so you can get on with what really matters - growing into the world changing human you came to this planet to be.
